Eastern Philosophy

Course Description

This course introduces students to eastern philosophies and helps them to understand the philosophical similarities among these philosophies, especially as they relate to reality, value, knowledge, and religion. Topics may include: Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Mohism, and Daoism.

Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will have...

1. Recognized and differentiated between historical South and East Asian texts by accurately and fully describing concepts and arguments and placing them in their social-historical contexts;

2. Developed interdisciplinary and critical reasoning skills and applied these skills to a variety of cultural-historical, philosophical, and religious issues;

3. Evaluated and assessed the content, structure, and strategies of philosophical and religious work; and

4. Applied philosophical and religious concepts to contemporary issues through the construction of arguments.
