What are Office Hours For?
✓ General Advising
Office hours are a great opportunity to get advice from a faculty adviser about your course planning, talk to people about ways to fund your education, or get information about programs, degrees, and career paths.
✓ Course Content Questions
If you are confused about class material, ask your instructor to explain it differently or walk through it slowly with you.
Office hours are the best place to ask questions that you have about the readings, supporting materials, and lectures.
✓ Reviewing Graded Work
Many students do not do as well as they expected on papers / exams at least once in college. Office hours are an appropriate setting to talk about what went well, what went wrong, & how to improve going forward.
✓ Grade Questions|Concerns
If you are unhappy with your grade or have questions about why your grade is what it is, office hours are the appropriate place to talk about it.
✓ Studying Tips
There are many strategies that can be used for any class, but some subjects have specific strategies that work particularly well for that discipline. Your instructor may have tips about ways to tailor your studying towards a particular class.
✓ Draft Feedback
In courses which have written components, office hours allow for more personalized and specific feedback on your drafts, to be taken in addition to any feedback already provided.
